Close to a Horse Ride

Image
We got as close to a horse ride as we were going to get this trip; The carriage ride was relaxing and interesting.           The old homes were a delight. We are starting our way north tomorrow.  Maybe spring will stay with us as he head back 💟

Savannah on our minds

Image
We made it to Savannah with very little traffic.  After the few travels days we have had, I was certain there was no escaping bumper to bumper 40-mph in Georgia (on I-75 either).  Great weather so far.  We decided to stay here for a few days to enjoy the weather and the rich history of the area. The traffic was so good, we did not need to get Fred, Lefty, or Squeaky out to entertain our neighbor cars. More to post tomorrow!

Puppet Appendage

What name should be given to left hand that does not work?  Instead of just being irritated with the darn thing, it could have a name, maybe even it's own personality.  We came up with a few and think it's time to share as we get ready to pack up and head to Savannah.  We have "Fred" (the frog), Lefty, and Squeaky.  Which is your favorite?  Maybe, depending on the day and mood, they could all be used.

Stone Mountain Park

Image
We took a trip to Stone Mountain today.  The stone work on the side of the mountain is impressive.  Atlanta is behind my shoulder We then took a break from the driving (thanks Dan) to relax at NoFo Brew pub.  The beverages were good, setting was comfortable, the weather was great!  We had to finish and be on our way as to not hold up the important "corn hole" league.

Taking a break from driving

Located on top of the largest gold deposits found east of the Mississippi River, gold was first discovered completely by accident in the Dahlonega area in 1828, 20 years before the Gold Rush to California. What makes Dahlonega gold so different from other gold found around the world is the purity. Dahlonega has the purest gold in the world, which is  98.7 percent pure . This makes our gold over 23KT gold. Mint opened a branch in Dahlonega to mint gold coins, but within a decade Georgia's Gold Rush dwindled as many miners became "Forty-Niners" in the California Gold Rush of 1849. The weather was awesome today!  The temps were in the low 80s and sunny.  We took some time to shop and have good eats. 👈Taking a pic with the blue slug bug Taking a break from the family stories.  Kind of boring day but nice.

The "thing" about GPS

Image
Using GPS verses a paper map has been an on going discussion since the start of the trip.  I like using GPS because Mr. "Google" can get us to places easily and usually quicker.  This approach is not without some quirky missteps leading to years of family story telling. *Note to self... pay attention to the auto fill when typing in the address.  There is a difference between "road" and street".   A funny thing happened on the way to visit Cousin John and the University of Georgia. Below is the picture of Fuller Rd.  We pulled in and immediately thought " Deliverance " (1972 movie) and why is Cousin John out in the "back country" house sitting at the palace  "ma and pa kettle" wouldn't step foot. OK, now that we found the right address, we felt a little better because this location was less like Deliverance and more like " Animal House ".  We are still asking ourselves "Why cousin John, why?" My mind was re...

Yes, Mom is still breathing

Leaving Lexington KY.  Had plans to go to a horse farm and race track but the winds were about 60-miles an hour (makes for a bad hair day, especially for me).   We endured another traffic jam going 17-miles in 2-hours.  Good thing for Sirius XM Classic Vinyl. Mom did buy me a special pair of ear plugs for the trip but so far there has been no need.

The longest Day EVER!

Image
Wow, the day started out with only one meltdown but there was a quick recovery.   Then I just had to swap her toilet paper for the following: Once we got that all straightened out, we were on our way! It took us 8+hours today because it was bumper to bumper between Michigan and Kentucky.  It was like being at Cedar Point waiting in line for a new ride.

Trip count down to Mom and Me 23- six days to go!

Image
Broke the news today to mom that we are going to "blog" our trip.  I think she was okay with the news, we will see. Counting down, 6-days to go and nothing is packed yet.  Yikes!

Let's improve our photos, for sure!

Mom and me 23 is going to start with a road trip to see family members.  This all started with the idea I was not going to buy my mom anything for Christmas but was "gifting" her 1-week of my vacation to do some fun things. Clearly, we will need to get better at taking pictures.
